Yoga

Yoga is so much more than just stretching or moving your body — it's a way of coming home to yourself.

The roots of yoga go back thousands of years to ancient India, where it was developed as a spiritual and philosophical practice to help people live with more balance, awareness, and connection. The word yoga means “to unite” — not just body and breath, but also mind, heart, and soul.

Many people are introduced to yoga through the physical postures (called asana), but that’s just one small piece of the bigger picture. Yoga is really a way of life — a gentle but powerful path that helps us live more mindfully, kindly, and truthfully.

A beautiful framework for understanding yoga is something called the Eight Limbs of Yoga, which were described by an ancient teacher named Patanjali. These eight aspects guide us not only in how we move, but how we treat ourselves and others, how we breathe, how we focus, and how we find moments of calm and inner stillness.

Here’s a quick overview:

  1. Yama – values like kindness, honesty, and respect for others

  2. Niyama – self-care and personal growth

  3. Asana – the physical movements we practice in class

  4. Pranayama – using the breath to calm or energise the body and mind

  5. Pratyahara – turning inward, stepping back from the noise of the world

  6. Dharana – gentle concentration, learning to focus

  7. Dhyana – meditation, allowing space for peace and awareness

  8. Samadhi – a deep sense of connection and inner freedom

Whether you're here to move, breathe, heal, or simply take a pause from everyday life, yoga can meet you exactly where you are. It's not about touching your toes — it’s about what you learn on the way down.

My Yoga Journey:

My journey with yoga began around five years ago, during a time when I was searching for ways to heal and manage my Complex PTSD. What started as a tool for survival soon became a path of deep transformation. Through consistent practice, yoga has taught me how to nurture both my mind and body, helping me reconnect with myself in a way I never thought possible.

I completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at Soul Sanctuary Studio in Worcester, where I had the privilege of learning from inspiring teachers. The training was rooted in the psychology of yoga, which resonated deeply with me and continues to shape how I approach both my practice and teaching.

I have a love for all styles of yoga, but I’m especially passionate about traditional Ashtanga. I’m drawn to its discipline, its rhythm, and the way it invites you to meet yourself honestly—both on and off the mat.

Whether you're new to yoga or returning to your practice, I hope to create a space where you feel safe, supported, and inspired to explore your own journey of healing and self-discovery.

I currently teach two led classes each week at Everyone Active in Southam — a dynamic Vinyasa Flow on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 10:30am.

My classes weave together yoga philosophy and asana (physical practice) to create a well-rounded experience for both mind and body. Each session is designed to build strength, flexibility, and inner awareness in a supportive environment.

From January, I’ll also be introducing my own independent class, offering a chance to practise in a smaller, more personal setting. More details coming soon!
