About Jikiden Reiki

Reiki Ryoho (therapy) is the art of hands on healing originating in Japan in 1922, established by Mikao Usui (臼井甕男1865-1926). Reiki itself can be described as the universal energy of existence, which flows through all life and matter.

It is completely natural and non-invasive, and when a Reiki therapy is received from a trained practitioner, it can assist in the healing of both body and mind. Treatments are carried out by the practitioner placing their hands directly on the recipient, who remains fully dressed throughout the session, normally laying on a treatment couch.

By doing this hands on, the practitioner effectively acts as a conduit for Reiki energy to pass through him or her in greater abundance, assisting and boosting the natural healing ability of the recipient’s body. Reiki works not only on physical issues but can also improve mental health and outlook, and over the past few decades has become increasingly popular throughout the world especially in Europe and the USA, becoming recognized as an effective and important holistic health treatment. Trials and studies are now being held in hospitals and front-line medical staff.

What to Expect:

During a Jikiden Reiki treatment, I’ll place my hands directly on the receiver while they’re fully clothed and relaxed, usually on a massage couch. When treating the head, we use a cotton cloth called a tenugui to cover the eyes. This helps relax the receiver and keeps the face clean when touching it.

Many types of Reiki styles say that Reiki treatments are hands-off, but that wasn’t how Reiki was originally taught. Usui sensei taught his students to touch, and there are good reasons for this. It helps give a more focused and concentrated treatment, and it’s easier to feel byosen (toxins) when you touch.

In Jikiden Reiki, we focus on specific areas that we think have a build-up of byosen. The warmth of our hands (both physical and Reiki) can also help relax the receiver. If the receiver doesn’t want to be touched directly, that’s okay too, but we do recommend it.

Treatments are booked for 90 minutes however the treatment time can vary between 60-90 minutes and will end at point where the energy levels are naturally at a low level. I will conclude the session with a traditional massage (Ketsueki Kokan Ho) performed over clothing.

Jikiden Reiki can be used to treat the symptoms of any physical, mental complaints or just for relaxation.

How many Reiki treatments will I need?

Injuries and minor ailments usually heal quickly and effectively with Reiki and may need only a few treatments. More serious health conditions will need longer and more treatments. Usually the longer you have had a condition, the longer it will take to begin to clear from your system.

Stress and anxiety are often at the heart of a physical problem, so coming for Reiki treatments will help not only the symptoms, but the underlying cause as well.

Many people find that as they receive more Reiki treatments, they begin to gain valuable insight into the causes of the imbalance in their system.

There is no set number of treatments as each case is individual. After a couple of treatments it usually becomes clearer whether you are in need of short-term or longer-term support.

Psychological/Emotional Treatments

Psychological Reiki, also known as Seiheki chiryo in Japanese, is a powerful tool with many benefits. It can help you break free from unwanted habits, fears, addictions, and even serious mental health issues. This unique method is taught at the Okuden level, alongside the distance Reiki (Enkaku) method. It was created by the legendary Mikao Usui, and though it wasn’t as common back then, Chiyoko Yamaguchi and her family have embraced it more and more over the years. Maybe it’s because of the crazy world we live in these days.

The basic idea behind psychological Reiki is that it reaches both your conscious and subconscious minds. Whether it’s a minor issue like an unwanted habit or a more serious problem like bedwetting in kids, or even deeper-rooted issues, psychological Reiki can help. And guess what? If you learn Jikiden Reiki up to the Okuden level, you can even treat yourself!

The sensations you experience during psychological Reiki are similar to a hands-on treatment, but they’re not the same. Unlike traditional Reiki, which deals with toxins in the body (Byosen), psychological Reiki focuses on the mind. And while it can sometimes feel a bit more intense, it’s completely safe. In fact, it’s been used in Japan for almost a century without any issues.

One thing to keep in mind is that emotional responses during treatment, like crying, are totally normal. But don’t worry, the treatment only gives you what you can handle and is completely safe. So, give it a try and see how it works for you!

Enkaku Treatment (distant)

Enkaku, or Distant Reiki, can be given by anyone who’s trained to Okuden level. The treatment time is the same as in person. During the treatment, I can feel byosen, blocked areas that need treatment, just like in a face-to-face session.

I like to do this treatment with an initial  WhatsApp video call prior to the session and discuss what needs treating, then at the agreed time, the receiver is asked to lie down or sit and relax. Reiki is given to the areas most in need so the receiver’s body can use the energy to help the natural healing process.
